So as you can see, the Pointy rig will get a bit more attention when I’m feeling up to it. Which I’m currently not.

This week – 7 to 13 of July – I watched The Story of Film: An Odyssey episodes 4-15. It is a great and expansive documentary about innovators in film and there’s lots there to go and follow up on. I also watched Miyazaki’s Ponyo, Henry Selick’s Coraline and Dumbo which were, respectively, cute and sweet, dark and wonderful, and merry except when it wasn’t. All were delightful in their own way.

In search of ways to make my drawings a bit more dynamic and rhythmic, I’ve been going through old André Franquin BDs (Gaston if anyone’s curious) and copying the panels down. The careful exaggeration and geometry and liveliness and visual appeal in Gaston I like a lot.

Writing-wise I did a draft scene for Quiet One – I showed it to a friend who told me it was too violent.

Blender-wise, I played around with Freestyle (Blender’s line-drawing module) this weekend in order to put a wayward post-bingedrink traffic cone on Dumbo’s head. For improving one’s Freestyle-fu I can highly recommend Blender NPR’s Freestyle Level-Up course.

Nothing much else to report. Gronky’s still a weird egg thing. I’m not really in any state right now to say how close I am to having something I can model. I just can’t tell anymore. Winter’s like that.
