This is why I hate working with virtual fur at my current skill level. Among other things, it merrily explodes. Thankfully Blenderfolk have made videos – this one containing lots of hair dynamics demos, and these two which are in French but still useful. The French one has some fairly solid settings which I’ve included a screencap of here. Mainly cranking “steps” up seems to be the trick to avoiding explosions.

I’ve been teaching myself about Krita today, getting familiar with how it all works. It looks like a pretty powerful app for digital painting even though the support materials are, er, not great. But I’ve learnt a few hotkeys, changed a few settings on my Wacom tablet, and generally liking the whole Krita experience. Generally. Except the start-up time.

But the big news in the Blenderverse is that Sony has DMCAed the third Blender Open Movie Sintel, something they have no legal right to do. On one hand, Sony’s open source tech (e.g. OSL) has helped make Blender the awesome software it is, but when they turn around and do this? Jerks.
